Preston Market Hall

Preston, Lancashire

Client: Preston City Council
Value: £5 Million

Preston City Council is providing investment for the redevelopment of the Markets Quarter.  The scheme forms part of the wider £50 Million regeneration area which includes the construction of a new indoor market, the refurbishment of the outdoor market canopies and a new 11-screen cinema, seven restaurants and a new multi-storey car park.

FWP has led the restoration of the historic fish market canopy and the main outdoor market canopy.  The listed structures have both undergone extensive refurbishment restoring them to their former glory.  The canopy restoration work was undertaken and completed during 2016.

The new market hall opened early in 2018 and comprises more than 1200 sq.m. of trading space within a contemporary glazed enclosure.  The new market hall, designed by FWP in collaboration with Greig and Stephenson Architects, provides a successful replacement for the dated former indoor market and offers the ‘best in Lancashire’ from local market traders.

The new outdoor market space also doubles up as a year-round events space with demountable market stalls designed in conjunction with students at the University of Central Lancashire.
