Chester Racecourse

Chester, Cheshire

Client: Chester Racecourse Company Ltd
Value: £16 Million (across various projects)

FWP has provided cost consultancy, procurement and project management services for various projects carried out over many years at the prestigious Chester Racecourse.

These projects included the creation of the 1539 restaurant, which is named after the year that racing first officially took place in Chester. Works adjacent to the city wall included a complicated extension into the existing roof space and the creation of a new roof terrace, both of which overlook the racecourse. This project was completed within tight time constraints during the closed season and won a Civic Trust Award.

The Owners and Trainers Pavilion provides excellent facilities for racing professionals in the form of a lightweight pavilion structure at the centre of the course, adjacent to the parade ring.

The new pavilion provides facilities for owners and trainers on race days, as well as valuable entertaining space at this popular Chester venue all year round.

The project was completed on budget during the seven-month close season. It was crucial that the building was finished before the start of the racing season. The building blends into the racecourse thanks to its sedum roof, and it is perfectly positioned close to the parade ring and the finishing line.

Terrace extensions with canopies and glass balustrades were added to enhance the ambience of this modernised, tasteful building. The entire area now has a contemporary feel and is a very popular spot for racegoers.
