FWP has provided multidisciplinary design services for the major remodelling of the former Palatine building on Blackpool’s golden mile. Historically the site was occupied by the Palatine Hotel and in the 80s the world famous Palace nightclub which was at that time the largest venue of its kind in Europe. Realising the clients vision for the site, with black storey height glazing, was very challenging with the planning authority and involved extensive visual impact assessments and virtual views
Situated about 100 yards from Blackpool’s iconic tower, which is a historic monument and grade 1 listed, the scheme comprises a 3 storey vertical extension, making the building 5 storeys in total, and completely new facades to the existing and new building elements. The completed gross floor area is 150,000 square feet with 21,000 square feet dedicated to the Showtown museum which celebrates the entertainment history of Blackpool “the ultimate seaside destination”
On the ground floor, accessed directly from the promenade, are two further entertainment venues, The Wild West Diner and the much acclaimed Spy Glass Bar which is themed on the James Bond movie genre.
